If you are candidate for bleaching, Dr. Sapundzhieva may suggest a procedure that can be done in office. Yellow–ish hued teeth will probably bleach well, brownish-colored teeth will bleach less well, and grayish-hued teeth will not bleach well at all. Likewise, bleaching may not enhance your smile if you have had bonding or tooth-colored fillings placed in your front teeth. The whitener will not affect the color of these materials, and they will stand out in your newly whitened smile. In these cases, you may want to investigate other options, like porcelain veneers or dental bonding.

In-office bleaching

This procedure is called chair side bleaching and may require more than one office visit. Each visit may take from one hour. During chair side bleaching, a protective gel is applied to your gums to protect the oral soft tissues. A bleaching agent is then applied to the teeth, and a special light may be used to enhance the action of the agent. You should expect a difference of 7-11 shades lighter at the end of the visit. Yelloy-ish hued teeth might find better results than brownish or grayish hued teeth. Dr. Sapundzhieva may suggest more than one whitening treatment in hard cases.

Cosmetic bondings and fillings could be part of the whitening process. Dr. Sapundzhieva will remove old yellow composites that you might want to replace to have a complete white smile.
